* Abstract

Currently rolling stock electromagnetic (EM) emissions are a major concern for train manufacturers and railway infrastructure operators. Based on the analysis of standards and existing incompatibilities in railways, it has been demonstrated that the EMC standards do not cover the whole complex railway environment leading to some systems malfunctioning. Therefore, railway EM noise and EM interaction among railway constituents has to be characterised and standardised in order to decrease time to market and increase availability of the railway system. In this context, this paper will show the current results of three projects funded by the seventh frameword programme: TREND (Test of Rolling Stock Electromagnetic Compatibility for cross-Domain Interoperability) aims at harmonizing rolling stock approval tests; ECUC (Eddy Current Brake Compatibility) aims at harmonizing the interaction between Eddy-current brakes and signalling systems; and EATS (ETCS Advanced Testing and Smart Train Positioning System) aims at ETCS enhanced laboratory testing.
