* Abstract

Safety assessment is considered to be an important process of a safety critical system and plays a major role in obtaining the required certification. Bearing this in mind, if there is a security breach/attack on the train system this might lead to a loss of life and the system is considered to be unsafe. In this case, the security assessment proves to be a high priority and impossible to ignore. Current trend leads to employ on-board positioning based on GNSS that might use multi-constellation capability in order to provide the train system with increased accuracy, integrity and availability. This safety and security analysis will be based on ETCS Level 2 for the following technologies by STPS (Smart Train Positioning System). The safety analysis was conducted  covering the following
